School Shopping Blues

It's so crazy how many school supplies kids needs these days!! I only had to shop for two and probably spent about a hundred dollars on school supplies alone...that's not counting lunch boxes and shoes and clothes, etc. Sarah's list even had brand names for most items which I didn't think was good especially for those who may not be able to afford brand names. I am just glad to be done with it. Just have to get Evan some shoes and we'll be good to go! =)

Yikes, I can't image having to buy for two. Lucky for us, Lauren's list was super small this year. Actually, it was so small that we bought a couple extra things that it seemed like she would need, like a folder for homework and some eraser tops for those now eraserless pencils she owns. Here was her list....box of markers, box of colored pencils, 24 presharpened pencils, 3 elmers glue sticks, 5" pointed end scissors, plastic ruler, extra large pencil box, 1 pk of wide ruled paper, 2 boxes of tissues, and 1 box quart ziplock bags plus a $12.00 check for other supplies. Total for supplies $18.50 plus $12 check = $30.50

We did need a new lunchbox do tack on another $13.00 (almost as much as the supply total - yikes.)

This is the first year we didn't have to spend a TON of money...we are counting our blessings. : )-

Here we have to pay for text book rental fees...it cost us $175 for the 3 boys! We do have to send in school supplies as well, but this list seems pretty reasonable. The older they get the less stuff supplies they need-Andrew's list for 8th grade is pretty basic, too bad his clothes and shoes cost so much!

I love the pre-sharpened pencils. Did schools do away with pencil sharpeners? And pointed scissors...is that considered a weapon? Zip-lock bags of course are for the teachers lunches-) I went with Nik and we had a good laugh and discussion over the supplies. I told her about last year in a faculty meeting the custodians brought a container full of pens and pencils they had found during cleaning. We got to guess how many and the winner took all. I think it was around 500. It should be 24 boxes of tissues and 2 pencils....
